Nils Larsen

Sea Captain

Nils Larsen, a Norwegian Sea Captain, is most associated with the Norway expeditions of Antarctica. Larsen was born in Sandar, Norway, and after receiving his masters degree he was employed by a shipping company and later on became a well known whaler. Nils Larsen also not only captained a number of ships of his own but he also served as a first mate on Norvegia expeditions of Antarctica. During this scientific expedition, eventually Norway achieved annexation of Bouvet Island and Peter I Island. Larsen was the first to have ever set foot on the island.
